Ghost Train

Becky saw some examples of ghostly figures, formed from chicken wire, and bathed in a rippling light, appearing like spectral apparitions at the back of the yard. I thought it would be even cooler if they could move around. So I started trying to figure out how I could make a device that would move three of these ghosts at a time around in a circle…like a carousel. The challenge? I wanted a twelve foot circle, and it had to function on the incline of the front yard, but the ghosts shouldn’t lean when on the incline. So I started designing control arms that would follow a track around the hill, up and down the incline. I chose a christmas-tree rotator to drive a disk on which the three arms would be mounted. Each ‘car’ at the end of the arm would ride two pulley’s on a single 12′ diameter monorail.
